Sold – Scottish Silver Mounted Powder Horn

A very large flattened presentation SCOTTISH SILVER-MOUNTED POWDER HORN, dated 1861. Inscribed on the silver butt plug; “From D. O. – to – Lewis Stuart, Esqr – as a mark of esteem, 1861”. The silver spout has what appears to be a thistle leaf engraved on both sided and a relief carved screw-on ball shaped decoration that terminates with a  faceted cut glass stone (probably quartz). It has two silver  suspending rings that are set on a silver mount. This well-made Scottish powder horn measures 24” around the curve and is I” thick and 4 ¾” across the flat. Excellent Condition!

A rare and wonderful presentation Scottish Powder Horn that deserves research.
