Revolutionary War Bowie Knife
American forged bowie knife with stylized eagle pommel, a brass tang, and a tapered lenticular blade carried by William Grayson of Dumfries, Virginia. Grayson enlisted in the Continental Army in 1776. No doubt living in Dunfries, Virginia which is close to Mt Vernon, he must have known George Washington because immediately upon enlisting he immediately became aide-de-camp to General George Washington. Grayson served throughout the Revolutionary War. After the war he was appointed as a member of the Virginia delegation to the Constitutional Convention along with George Mason, Patrick Henry and Jamed Monroe. He was an anti-federalist and became very unpopular thus never saw his political views accepted. He died March 12, 1790.
