Sioux / Dakota / Lakota Beaded Hide Moccasins
Beautiful pair of 19th century Sioux / Dakota or Lakota beaded hide moccasins, with buffalo rawhide soles, from circa the 1880s.
Moccasins made of thin native tanned hide with buffalo rawhide soles and welts, and sinew sewn. Quite rare is the painted red band at the top of the leather.
The lowers top has red, black and white “seed” bead decorations. The uppers are decorated with black and white “seed” beads which is classic Sioux / Dakota / Lakota design, all sinew sewn.
The uppers are decorated along the side openings with red, white and black “seed” beads. Each side opening has three buttons (one button on each moccasin is missing). The buttons are 19th century carved shell.
Overall good condition. Hide is soft and supple except the sole is hard. No apparent loss of beads. These old moccasins measure each circa 10″ (toe to heel) x 3 ½ (across the bottom of moccasins) and 8” tall”.
Great pair of Native American moccasin in very good condition.
