Hunting Pouch – Powder Horn from Augusta County, Virginia

18th Century Hunting Pouch and Powder Horn purchased from Janet Marie Spencer Humphries, Staunton, Virginia by Gordon Barlow. According to Janet Humphries this Hunting Pouch and Powder Horn was owned by her relative Thomas Spencer, Augusta County, Virginia (Born 1740).

The hunting pouch appears to made of bear hide with nice tooling on the flap.  The carrying strap appears to be cow hide and is not original to the hunting pouch. The pouch is single compartment normal found on early hunting pouches. It has a wonderful original patina and measures 7 1/2″ across and 6 1/2″ tall.

The powder horn has a wonderful lob which is integral to the body of the powder horn and often found in Augusta County on 18th century powder horns dating to the F&I War era. It has beautiful original patina and measures 16″ around the curve and 2 3/4″ across the butt.

Nice identified Hunting Pouch and Powder Horn.
