Contemporary Jaeger completed by Ron Scott
Very fine Jaeger rifle that was provided to Ron Scott to complete, in the unfinished state, by Ken Bretheur. Ken purchased this unfinished Jaeger after being told that it was started by John Bivins. Both Ron Scott and Mark Silver do not believe that the unfinished Jaeger was the work of John Bivin’s. (Perhaps, the unfinished portion of this Jaeger was done by an apprentice in John’s Shop, which, would explain the John Bivin’s attribution!). Regardless, all agree that the workmanship of this unfinished Jaeger was well enough designed and executed that it needed to be completed. Ron Scott was able to locate or modify castings to complete and finish this wonderful Jaeger. It has a black walnut stock, a Davis flintlock, and beautiful castings. The Jaeger, stocked with it beautiful piece of black walnut, is accented with a sliding wooden patchbox, with wonderful relief carving, a wonderful ivory inlay in the check, engraved fashion hardware, and double gold wedding bands around the blued barrel at the breech and at the muzzle. The full octagon rifled barrel is approximately 60 caliber and is 31” long (Jaeger is 47” overall). The barrel has a beautiful hand-filed decorative rear sight, a hand-filed silver front sight, and a fashion nose cap. Ron says; “I did not sign this Jaeger as there was very little of my design involved”. While Ron did not choose to sign this Jaeger, the final outcome of this beautiful Jaeger exhibits Ron Scott’s attention to detail and outstanding workmanship for which he will forever be known.
