American Revolutionary War Musket Carried by William Palmer Amelia County, Virginia

Stunning American stocked Revolutionary War Musket probably made in New England by an American Gunsmith. The original flintlock used in this musket is a mid-18^th century Brown Bess lock. The 38 ½” barrel has English proof marks and the hardware is a combination of English parts and parts made by an American gunsmith, The musket tis 55” overall and the wood, while showing age is all original. The musket was carried by William Randolph Palmer of Amelia County, Virginia. According to the Palmer Family, William picked this musket up on the battlefield at the Battle of Brandywine when his rifle broke.

This is a wonderful original Revolutionary War musket with great history. Purchased from the Palmer family in Ameilia Ciunty by Courtney Smith, Sandston, VA and sold to Dr Francis Amos at the John Marshal Hotel Gun Show in the 1970’s.

William Palmer Bio and Pension Application

William Palmer was a Revolutionary War commander in  11^th Virginia and served under Colonel Daniel Morgan and Lt Colonel Christian Febiger. He was the acting commander during Morgan’s attachment to the Provisional Rifle Corps from mid-1777 to mid-1778). William served from 1777 – 1779 in the Revolutionary War at the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth.

I do hereby certify that it appears from the books of this Office that William Palmer drew on the twentieth of November 1783 thirteen pounds one shilling and eleven pence as a soldier (in the infantry) on Continental establishment. Given under my hand in the Auditor’s Office this 17^th day of January 1809

On the motion of William Palmer It is ordered that it be certified to the executive of this state that he has this day proved by the oath of Mourning Lipscomb a person of credibility that he the said Palmer enlisted and served 3 years in the 11^th Virginia Regiment on Continental establishment; and that he served during the whole term of his enlistment.
