LT COL NICHOLAS

Lt. John Nicholas was in the military service in Captain Michael Cresap’s Company at Pittsburgh during the Dunmore’s War and as a Captain of Infantry in the Virginia line. He served as a Captain from the 1st of January in the year 1777 to the 5th of June 1780, when he received commission of Lieutenant Colonel of a body of Buckingham County Militia raised for the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War. His militia fought in the North Carolina battles after the American defeat at Charleston, South Carolina and returned to Virginia to participated in the Siege of Yorktown,  at which time he was discharged from service and returned to his home in Buckingham County, Virginia.

This fine ensemble presents a fine collection of Revolutionary War memorabilia that the Nicholas Family sold to Mr. Charlie Yost, Albemarle County, Virginia in the 1970’s who sold to Gordon Barlow, Swoope, Virginia in 1982 for his collection.
